Join me on my journey....to eat!

I'm Nicole and over the course of the last several months, I discovered I have food allergies and they aren't the "normal" ones. You know, peanuts, soy, lactose, gluten. My allergies are just plain strange. Did you know you could be allergic to oatmeal and onions? Well, it's possible. You can also be allergic to beans (chick and navy), hazelnuts, and tea. Yes, tea..the stuff you drink to feel better...from  an illness. It can never be easy with me...

Eating is a struggle; plain and simple. Dining out is even worse. I am the annoying person at the table who has to ask the server what is in every single dish I may want to order. Most of the time I resign myself to eat the grilled cheese or plain chicken. I've become very self conscious about it and sometimes, I don't even mention I have allergies. I know it's not a smart decision but I am slowly becoming more comfortable advocating for myself at restaurants.

After a very long and painful (emotionally and physically--stomach pains aren't fun), I've decided to chronicle my journey to embrace my allergies and EAT!! Okay...I also workout...so I'll also discuss that as well.

I will be posting recipes, food I've cooked or baked, and also restaurants and bakeries that are allergy friendly.

For now...I'd like to send to accolades to these two restaurant that was very food allergy aware and accommodating:

Cook

--I could only eat the burger on the menu but it was delightful!

Rox Diner
http://cooknewton.com/

--They kindly switched up the fish and chips to fish and mac 'n' cheese for me and couldn't have been more pleasant.

Both servers were very knowledgeable of the menus and the ingredients in the foods so it wasn't a big production to find out what's in the food. It only amounted to a small "affair".

And now for the D-list:

Alma Nove

The server didn't know anything about the ingredients in the dishes which prolonged the ordering process for the entire party. The whole dining experience left a bad taste in my mouth and no it was not a reaction from my dish. My food didn't live up to the standards proclaimed on the website.  As a result, this establish receives a D-.

Check back often and hopefully, you can find some stuff you like.
